Home of the fastest growing movement in Islam and the largest Sufi order in West Africa. This melting pot of international students and scholars founded by Shaykh Al-Islam Ibrahim Niass is now the spiritual headquarters for over 100 Million Muslims worldwide. Currently led by Chief Imam Shaykh Ahmad Tijani Cisse, the Grand Mosque Medina Baye hosts millions of Muslims each year for weekly prayer services, weddings, funerals, conferences as well as iftars and special prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. Medina Baye is also the home of more than 70 Quran schools including the internationally recognized African American Islamic Institute founded by former Chief Imam and notable humanitarian, Shaykh Hassan Ali Cisse (d. 2008). The city is home to students and scholars from all over the world including Gambia, Mauritania, Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan, Morocco, Guinea, Togo, Liberia, France, The United Kingdom and The United States of America.
